Out of Darkness
1 Peter 2:9 (ESV)
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
Am reminded of story of a street kid. One family decided to adopt a street kid from the darkness of the street hassle and bustle life and into the marvelous light of their warm loving home. They treated the kid as their own; fed him l well, adorned him fresh clothing. For the first time the lad slept on his own bed and in a room by himself. He was enrolled in one of the nicest schools in town. The boy was truly transformed, sadly only on the outside and not the inside.
One day the boy went missing from school. The new parents went all over town in search for the lad only to find him playing under the bridge with his old friends. He even had his old clothes on. The lad refused to go home with the new family and insisted on staying with the old family.
Our God purchased us with a price (The only begotten Son, The Light of the world). We have been redeemed from darkness into His marvelous light. Yes we are Royal priest hood, called to fist at the banquet with our Father. We are joint heirs with the Lord Christ Jesus. Sadly, we often sneak out of the beautiful mansion and choose to dwell in the darkened cottages where sin guilt and condemnation abounds.
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” I John 8:12 (ESV)
Therefore as children of light “Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.” Ephesians 5:11 (ESV)
May we forever dwell in the mansion where freedom, righteousness, joy and peace reign eternally.
May we not be enticed with the fleeting pleasures of sin.
May our light so shine before men illuminating the good works of the father in us.
