I was born, and raised and currently live in Malawi. A country known across Africa as the Warm heart of Africa, due to the people’s friendliness. There are MANY good things about my country that often get overlooked by the reality we face. Almost every introduction about Malawi will include the fact that we are one of poorest countries IN THE WORLD, in fact we were named the poorest non war country in 2015. We live under a $1 a day and the majority of people don’t have access to basic needs like clean water, health care and electricity (etc.)
Living in Malawi is generally really hard, and it gets so easy to think and look for greener pastures outside. I used to be one of those people who wanted to leave, run away and go else where were life is more comfortable.
But over time, the Lord has worked in my life to make me love and appreciate my country. No matter how hard it is I have learnt to love it because it where God placed me. One of my favorite passages is Acts 17:26-27 because of what it says about where I live(Malawi): “And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place,27 that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him.”. The Lord has determined the boundaries of our dwelling place, he is sovereign even over our current geographical position.
The implications of this is that you are not where you are because you were born there or your parents migrated there but because God wants you there. No matter what circumstances got you there, God wanted you there. But for what purpose?
Verse 27 builds on the previous verse to say “that perhaps they may seek God and feel their way toward him and find him“. He placed us here, so that we might find him here. And here is a plot twist, God not only places us where we are for ourselves but also for others. Once you know him, the next goal to help others know him as well that’s Matthew 28:18″Go and make disciples of all nations”, I’m sure all nations includes your country.
To wrap what I’m trying to say, you are not where you are right now by accident, whether it’s the poorest nation in the world or the richest, God placed you there. He placed you there for his glory, for your salvation and for the salvation of others. I pray God draws you near to himself where you are and uses you to draw other to himself.
Grace and Peace friends,
