#ReflectionMondays: Psalm 9&10- God’s Justice

Hey friends, happy Monday! I’m currently studying the Psalms, and this past week Psalm 9 and 10 really encouraged me. Particularly when it speaks about the poor, oppressed and fatherless as well as justice and righteousness. Here are some of my favorite excepts from Psalm 9 and 10 respectively;

“But the LORD sits enthroned forever; he has established his throne for justice, and he judges the world with righteousness; he judges the peoples with uprightness. The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you. Sing praises to the LORD, who sits enthroned in Zion! Tell among the peoples his deeds! For he who avenges blood is mindful of them; he does not forget the cry of the afflicted.”- Psalm 9.
“But you do see, for you note mischief and vexation, that you may take it into your hands; to you the helpless commits himself; you have been the helper of the fatherless. O LORD, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.” -Psalm 10

As His children, we can trust in God and his righteousness and justice. Especially when the systems of justice in this world let us down, we can trust in him. He inclines his ear to the afflicted, he brings justice to the fatherless and oppressed.

One of my favorite Old Testament phrases is “those who trust in him will not be put to shame“, and I think that’s evident in these psalms, especially because often times from this world’s perspective it looks like God doesn’t hear us or has forgotten about us (see Psalm 10:11). But the word of God encourages us to put our trust in him because “the LORD sits enthroned forever; he has established his throne for justice, and he judges the world with righteousness; he judges the peoples with uprightness.”

Dear friend, are you currently stricken with afflictions or suffering unjustly under the rulers of this world?! Take courage in the LORD for He is a stronghold for the oppressed, he will bring justice for his people. Trust in Him at all times.

Grace and Peace,

Dee.
